The Pathfinder Foundation Felicitated

Mr.-MM-Receiving-Award2The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka recognized the Pathfinder Foundation as one of its top 10 partners at a ceremony to mark Chinese New Year and Sri Lanka's National Day held at the BMICH on Friday 17th January. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne, Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena, Minister of External Affairs G.L Peiris and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga were among those present at this ceremony. Here Chinese Ambassador Wu Jianghao presents the top 10 partners award to Mr. Milinda Moragoda, Founder of the Pathfinder Foundation.

A Sinhala Language Translation of “THE ADVENTURES OF JONATHAN GULLIBLE: A Free Market Odyssey” by Ken Scooland

Jonathan GaThe Sinhala Translation of “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey” will be first released at the Colombo International Book Fair to be held from 16th to 24th September, 2006 at the BMICH.  The translator of the book is Mr. Lakshamana Saparamadu, who has a wide experience in translating literary work as well as economic and banking text books Noble Laureate in Economics, Milton Friedman in his review of “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible” says “it certainly presents basic economic principles, in a very simple and intelligible form.  It is an imaginative and very useful work”

“A Sinhala Language Translation of ROAD TO FREE ECONOMY Launched”

NirbadieThe Pathfinder Foundation as its very first activity re-launched the Sinhala translation of “Road to Free Economy”: a transition from socialism by the eminent Hungarian Economist Janos Kornai published in 1990. The publication also includes Kornai's self-assessment of the findings of the book and its impact after ten years of the its publication. More importantly, this book was launched in a provincial town of Matara , 100 km. away from the capital city of Colombo . The launch was well attended by the students of the University of Ruhuna and high schools in the province.In general, almost all the new books are launched in Colombo . The objectives of the Pathfinder Foundation are to take the economic policy debate to the regions and enable wider participation by the public.At the launch the key note address was delivered by Mr. Milinda Moragoda, MP while Prof. Rohan Samarajeewa and Prof. Danny Attapattu also made presentations, highlighting the relevance of the policies enunciated in Kornai's thinking in the current context of Sri Lanka.

The Mahoshada PerspectiveThe Pathfinder Foundation launched its latest book entitled “The Mahoshada Perspective: Commentaries on Economics and Development”, in January 2006.

This is a compendium of articles on economic issues published in Sri Lankan weekend newspaper “ Sunday Island ” during 2004 and 2005.The author who calls himself "Mahoshada" after the wise sage of Ummagga Jataka, has written on a wide range of current economic issues facing Sri Lanka . Fifty five essays have helped to influence economic thinking at the highest levels. With these weekly articles, Mahoshada has helped to fill a vacuum in economic policy debate in the country which has been dominated by outdated, anachronistic and populist rhetoric for a long time. Based on day to day issues in Sri Lanka , the essays by Mahoshada address issues relating to privatization, government subsidies, taxation, economic freedom, rural economy, unemployment, trade issues and globalization.
