“THE ADVENTURES OF JONATHAN GULLIBLE: A Free Market Odysse”
by Ken Scooland - Sinhala Translation


The Sinhala Translation of “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible:A Free Market Odysse” will be first released at the Colombo International Book Fair to be held from 16th to 24th September, 2006 at the BMICH.  The translator of the book is Mr. Lakshamana Saparamadu, who has a wide experience in translating literary work as well as economic and banking text books.

Noble Laureate in Economics, Milton Friedman in his review of “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible” says “it certainly presents basic economic principles, in a very simple and intelligible form.  It is an imaginative and very useful work”

“MYSTERY OF CAPITAL” by Hernando de Soto
Tamil Translation

Tamil Translation of the “Mystery of Capital” by Hernando de Soto has just being released by the printers.  The distribution of book has been entrusted to Poobalasingham Book Depot, The Sri Lanka’s leading Tamil book distribution company.  The translation, printing and marketing of the book is being co-ordinated by Mr. Senthil Velavar.  While the book will be on sale from next week, the official launch has been organized to be held at 5.00 pm on Sunday, 08th October, 2006 at Tamil Sangam Hall, in Wellawatte, Colombo 06.  The programme will include

Welcome speech by Mr. K. Balasundaram, Director, MMBL, Colombo and the subject related presentations by Prof . S. Sandrasegaram of Colombo University, Mr. V. Devaraj, Chief Editor,Virakesari Weekly and Mr. N. M  Ameen, Managing Editor, Tamil Publications, Lake House.

All those, who are interested, are invited to attend the book launch.

Rationale

The overarching problem in Sri Lanka is the lack of people who have the capacity and commitment to engage in informed discussions on the critical issues facing the country. The lack of an informed discourse is particularly debilitating in the area of economic reforms in general, and education, infrastructure and trade reforms in particular.
