Chinese Tour Operators and Investors in Town

Leading tour operators and a travel writer from Changzhou city are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday the 6th of May.

This visit is a practical outcome based on the Cooperation Memorandum between the Pathfinder Foundation (PF) and the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) in July 2012. As a follow-up to the agreement, the PF sent a business development delegation consisting of senior representatives from Aitken Spence, Hayley’s and John Keells to China in January of this year.

The visiting Chinese delegation includes a senior official from the Changzhou Municipal Tourism Administration Bureau, representatives from private tour operators, a travel magazine writer and investors in the hotel and restaurant sectors. The delegation is being hosted by the leading Sri Lankan corporates and the travel has been sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines.

The Chinese tour operators and investors are keen to take advantage of Sri Lanka’s potential as a destination for Chinese tourists. The Chinese travel market is estimated to have 90 million outbound tourists with nearly 250,000 already visiting Maldives. At a time when there is a slowdown in Sri Lanka’s major tourist markets in Europe, this could be a major breakthrough for the tourism sector in Sri Lanka.
